Many of these landscapes are primarily aerial views that have a thematic thread running throughout that can best be described as the sensation and appearance of air with a breathable fluidity among shapes.

A flight to San Francisco from New York sparked my interest in aerial views a few years ago, and I flew in commercial planes to study cloud formations, hiked rugged terrain out west, in the southwest and in Newfoundland thereafter I began painting the landscape as seen from above, beginning a process that has developed into a defining element of my work.

The references to the natural world are expansive. There is perhaps a sense of nostalgia for a large visual field rather than a specificity of place.     845-532-1374    © 2017 LYNNE FRIEDMAN. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
